Our Truth
On this path for generations to come
Reconciliation is a journey, not a destination. Join us as we work toward restoring relationships with Indigenous peoples in a positive way.
From our establishment in 1965 to the present day, 間眅埶AV continues to forge a reputation as the radical campus, unafraid to challenge the status quo. We respond to the changing needs of both the world around us and the people and communities we serve.
However, for most of our journey to date, the university did not meaningfully engage with the Host Nations on which 間眅埶AVs campuses reside, nor did we recognize Indigenous Peoples' deep history and connection to these lands. We uphold the fact that the Host Nations have used and occupied the lands of our three campuses since time immemorial.
Upholding Truth and Reconciliation at 間眅埶AV means collectively facing up to the harms of residential schools and other colonial practices enacted over more than a century. It means working hard to understand the truth and stories of these lands and our relationships and responsibilities to them.
Most of all, it means "nothing about us without us" and taking meaningful action in partnership with Indigenous peoples. Only then can we create safe, welcoming places for Indigenous students, staff and faculty to learn, teach and work.
We have a responsibility to illuminate the truth of Indigenous people in Canada and around the world as we continue to chart a path of Reconciliation.
