Course: URB 101: What is a City?

Location: ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV Burnaby campus (AQ 3153)

Time: Tuesdays (12:30-2:20 PM)

Start date: September 3, 2025

A TA is required for the undergraduate course URB 101: What is a City? This introductory course to Urban Studies covers topics, such as land use, housing dynamics, economic structures, social dynamics, transportation systems, political frameworks, and the interplay between humanity and the environment.

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Attending all lectures
  • Leading tutorial sessions
  • Reviewing assignments
  • Holding office hours
  • Posting announcements on Canvas
  • Responding to student inquiries via email

The preferred candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Academic background in urban studies or related fields
  • Familiarity with urban theories and methodologies
  • Past teaching experience as a TA (preferred)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Organizational and time-management skills
  • Proficiency in English communication skills, both oral and written

Please note: 

  • The appointment will be from September 3 to December 19, 2025.
  • Applicants who are not Canadian citizens or permanent residents of Canada must have a valid study/work permit, a Canadian bank account, and a valid Canadian SIN in order to be appointed.

In addition to the listed qualifications for each position, Urban Studies will define qualification in accordance with Article XIII F of the Collective Agreement with the Teaching Support Staff Union (TSSU). Evaluation of the adequacy of qualifications is at the director’s discretion. Interviews may be requested of a short list of candidates.
